Tips To Plan A Backpacking Trip In Ecuador

August 30, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Planning a backpacking trip, particularly to somewhere with so much natural beauty and remote mystery like Ecuador, sounds exciting. It sounds like one of those bucket list, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, and it can be. Backpacking in Ecuador or anywhere for that matter can be an amazing travel experience.

However, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to do some planning and consider logistics.

Just to give you one example, what if you go over budget during your backpacking trip? Do you have a plan in place for how friends or family will send money to Ecuador? What if your things are lost or stolen, what will you do? These just a couple of the many logistical concerns.

While you can’t plan for everything, having at least somewhat of a game plan can help reduce the risk of things going poorly on your trip.

The following are some tips to keep in mind as you plan your backpacking excursion to Ecuador.

Be Realistic with the Cost of Travel

We mentioned above the potential of running out of money. It’s best not to have that happen of course. Try to budget accordingly based on what it costs day-to-day in Ecuador. If you read travel blogs, you’ll see that many people have made it on around $500 a month in Ecuador, because it is an inexpensive place to travel.

Of course, if you’re staying in hotels more often hostels the costs will go up. Alternatively, maybe you’re spending more time camping than going to hotels or hostels, so your costs may be lower. Overall you can get a meal in a restaurant for around $3, and you can get street food for even cheaper. Public transportation is also very inexpensive, and hostels usually range from $5 to $10 a night.

Saving Money

If you are going backpacking, it may be because you want to save money while you see the country. Some tips for doing this are named above, such as opting for camping or hostels rather than hotels.

There are other options as well. For example, there are options called hospedajes which are guesthouses run by families, and they’re fairly easy to find in Ecuador. These will usually cost even less than a hostel.

Also, if you want to go to the Galapagos Islands, you’re going to likely book a cruise, but these can be pricey. If you wait until the last minute, you may be able to find better deals.

Creating an Itinerary

You want to have a general idea of where you’ll go on your trip. One of the go-to places in Ecuador are the Galapagos Islands. However, this is also going to be one of the most expensive parts of the country, and it’s going to be the most filled with tourists.

There are other areas that are worth a visit as well including Quito, Banos, and Vilcabamba.

Finally, like many other places in Latin America and the rest of the world for that matter, it is important to think about safety. There are specific safety recommendations for travelers, such as to stay away from the Colombia border if possible. Also, there may be theft on buses in Ecuador, and you want to be careful if you’re out alone at night. These are pretty standard recommendations regardless of where you’re traveling.

Surprising Things About New York

July 30, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

New York is a dream travel destination for a lot of people. However, it is also a destination whereby we feel like we know exactly what to expect. After all, it is one of the most famous places in the world. We have all seen the pictures and heard about the amazing tourist attractions there. So, what else could we possibly discover about this city? A lot, actually! In fact, there are lots of surprising things about NYC, as you will find out below.

You can go surfing in the city – Yes, you can go surfing in New York, believe it or not. There are actually two surfing beaches in New York – Long Beach and Rockaway Beach. They are only a short ride away from the heart of the city in Brooklyn and Queens.

It is home to the first ever U.S. hospital – Another amazing fact about New York is that it housed the first ever hospital in the United States of America. This hospital dates back to 1902, and it actually once acted as a detention facility for immigrants arriving on the island who were deemed too physically unfit or ill to enter the country.

It is also home to the first underground park in the world – New York is clearly a place of firsts. It also houses the first ever underground park. It’s not completed yet, though. You’re going to have to wait to visit New York until 2021 to see it in all of its splendour.

It has wildlife – Wildlife is one thing that most people do not associate with NYC. However, it certainly has it. There are thousands of animal species to be found in the numerous city parks. There are hundreds of bird species, as well as snapping turtles, cotton-tailed rabbits, and white-tailed dears.

There is no ‘I’ in Broadway – We’re not referring to the spelling. After all, that is pretty obvious! There is no row ‘I’ when it comes to the seating plans at the theatres. Instead, the rows go from A to H and then J to Z. This is because people were booking tickets and expecting to be in row one, mistaking the I for the number 1, and then they were disappointed to discover they were, in fact, nine rows back. Whether you are going to see Kinky Boots, The Lion King, or any other Broadway show, it’s advisable to book in advance, prior to your trip, if you want to bag one of those front row seats.

As you can see, there is a lot more to New York than meets the eye. After all, you probably didn’t expect that NYC would be a place for surfing or that it would have wildlife. In fact, New York is a place with a lot of surprises, and this is one of many reasons why it has become one of the most loved cities in the world.

Planning Your Holiday: Travel Essentials to Consider for a Trip

July 28, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Half of the year has gone by and autumn is just around the corner which calls for some very interesting travel places to go to for enthusiasts. Places south of the equator are bound to get colder by this time so it’s best to travel to usually hot places when there’s a cool autumn breeze right after the summer heat. Places in the north are preparing for the colder seasons too, so tickets are much cheaper if you’re planning to take a visit before the winter season comes. Whether you’re taking a vacation from work or taking a personal ‘gap year’ holiday, you need to take note of these travel tips which you’ll need for every type of travel excursion.

Planning your itinerary

First and foremost, you’ll need a place to set your sights on. There are a lot of cool travel ideas by location that range from the forest trails of South Africa to the sights of Sydney. Depending on where you are, planning ahead is your best plan of action as booking your flight months in advance can get you some cheap deals and trade-offs on flights and booking services.

Once you have the trip set, make sure you have all your documents prepared. Certain countries don’t need a visa for travel, but others will require a visa application along with other requirements depending on the country. Together with important documents like passports, IDs, and enough pocket money, be ready to pack your essentials: phones, gadgets, and just enough clothes for the duration of your trip. You’ll need a bit of extra luggage space for souvenirs of course.

Do a background check on your destination

Though the thrill of taking a vacation is being in an unknown land, it can be more of a chore than a magical experience. Getting lost and not knowing where to go can really take up your time and might leave you more tired than amazed at being a tourist. Don’t take the tourist pamphlets for granted as they often contain important information such as tourist information centres, currency exchange centres, restaurants and hotels, and local bus routes. Be open to learning a new language. Knowing simple phrases can be a great help to navigate on your own if you ever find yourself getting lost without a map.

Take note of the places to go to next

One of the best things about planning a trip is being able to go to multiple places based on your own rules. You can take that trip from hiking in Cape Town to Kayaking at Kerala before you take a plane back home. Finding new places once you get there is also one of the joys of travelling. Being familiar with the places you go to makes it easier for you to go back a second time to see more of the sights and to find more of the places that you couldn’t get to on your first visit.

How To Manage Your Indian Trips For Cheap

April 11, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

Recently, we went to India for having a long journey. However, we discovered that most people do not know how to manage their finances when it comes to India. They spend a lot more on souvenirs that most locals chuckle at and get themselves into fixes where the people take them for a ride.

How to avoid that, and still get the most out of your trip? Here’s a guide.

  1. Go to the remotest of places

Our travel itinerary was not built from the get-go. We landed in the Delhi airport and asked some of our local friends about where to go. So, we got some recommendations that did not exist in most tour packages and got through to making quite a decent saving regarding those packages.

We also got a lot of time to spend on the simple joys of travelling instead, of investing in places which were not “us” when it came to the whole deal. So, we ended up going to the North-Eastern hills, to the tribal areas in Kerala and the top-rated beaches in Andaman.

  1. Stay moving

With the advent of online hotel packages in India, we did not have to invest too much time in thinking about which one would suit us best. So, when it came to hotels in Wayanad, a remote, tribal place in Kerala, we got the most rustic taste imaginable.

Because we kept shifting, we got a taste of the rustic cuisines from all over the place and made friends with locals who would not let us go alone into the night. This meant that we had a lot more experiences at half the price.

  1. Trek and hitchhike

We admit that India is often not the safest place for hitchhiking. But, after checking into the hotels in Wayanad, we tried to do it anyway.

This meant we were riding the domestic vehicles driven by animals and visiting these places. We also managed a trek through a stretch of green which ended at this tribal house where we could rest, and see them dance.

We not only saved thousands in travel money, but we also saw more of India than most tourists did.

  1. Invest in friends

India is not the friendliest of places when it comes to guides. So, getting some friends who know the place well is a must if you want to start exploring. One of the best parts of our journey was that some traveler friends came along with us and shared their valuable wisdom as we went through the hills in the North East and the forests of Wayanad.

There you have it. Having a cheap Indian trip is not much of a headache and will not require a credit card. However, you need to be resourceful. India welcomes you sparingly at first, and then all at once, so, hold on and have a great time while you are at it.

3 Key Things To Look For In The Best Limo Service Los Angeles Has To Offer

March 28, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

People in Los Angeles will tell you how fast their lives move. Los Angeles leads the world in terms of entertainment and business. This has had a tremendous impact on the city as a whole, and this has impacted the various limo service Los Angeles businesses as well. They have had to make sure they offer things that people actually want.

3 Things All Limo Service Los Angeles Businesses Should Offer

LA truly offers it all. The Hollywood studies, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood sign, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the list is endless. In 2016, the Gross Metropolitan Product of Los Angeles was $1001.68 billion, one of the biggest in the world, and a huge percentage of that is earned through tourism. A lot of LA’s tourism is linked with stardom, which means there is a huge requirement for luxury limo rentals as well. Tourists must look up all the relevant information so that they actually get a high quality service. So what are the three things they should look into?

  1. A functional GPS system. There are 80 different neighborhoods and districts in Los Angeles, all of them connected through city roads, highways, and freeways. Traffic in LA is one of the worst in the world, with congestion being very common. Some 29 million trips are taken on LA roads every day. Nobody is able to know all the routes, and how to avoid congestion points, without a functional GPS. Unexpected issues can also arise and a driver must be able to change routes and still see the things that matter at a moment’s notice.
  2. Online booking services. Believe it or not, there are still limo businesses that cannot be booked online. These should be avoided. If a business cannot invest in creating a functioning, high quality, optimized, beautiful website, then it is unlikely that they will be able to invest in a high quality service either.
  3. No hidden charges. A good limo service will send you a quotation for rental that highlights exactly what you will pay and what those payments are for. You should be able, if you so wish, to make the full payment the moment you book, rather than having to wait until the day itself. No hidden charges should be added at any point. Indeed, good limo services will even tell you whether or not it is customary to tip the driver and, if so, by how much. You should not be left with any financial surprises at any point during your trip, in other words.

These are just three of the things that you should look for, but they are the most important. That is because a business that has these three things, is a business that cares about its customers. It also means that they are likely to offer all the other things of importance, such as trained drivers with background checks, comfortable vehicles, a selection of cars to choose from, specialized trips, and more.

Destinations To Fit Your Personality

March 23, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

They say the destinations you travel to says a lot about your personality. Just think about it: if you’re an easy-going person you may prefer a relaxed beach destination to an adrenaline filled vacation. And perhaps if you’re arty and inquisitive, you may want to visit a place that’s known for its architecture or strong design culture. There is indeed something to be said for the destination that tickles your fancy; and with that being said, let’s take a look at the four fundamental personality types, and find the ideal destination for each.

Personality type: Sanguine

Temperament: enthusiastic, active and social

If you consider yourself an extrovert; thriving on social interactions and enjoying nothing more than being the centre of attention, then it’s highly likely that you fall under the category of ‘Sanguine’. Sanguine’s love people, they are the social butterflies of the world. While they’re happy to interact with anyone and everyone they come into contact with, they seek deeper meaning to their interactions and gravitate towards people that are storytellers. Sanguines enjoy sharing their experiences and love to hear others’ too – this is their favourite way to connect. They strive to learn from others and hear their perspectives on life and the world; and find it incredibly thrilling when they share the same views as those they come into contact with. They may come across as bubbly, chatty and outspoken (and they are), but it’s all for a greater purpose. Sanguine’s are also known to enjoy their comforts; they are attracted to the luxury life and certainly know how to enjoy the finer things in life.

Destinations fit for Sanguines: Experiential vacations where they’re able to learn more about the intricacies of life and the planet, without compromising on comfort and luxury. They would also prefer places that have a strong focus on social interactions. A safari at Samara Game Reserve in Africa, a skiing holiday in Finland, or a backpacking trip through Southeast Asia would be perfect for a Sanguine as they bring like-minded people together; and often encourage socialising between travellers.

Personality type: Choleric

Temperament: Dominant, strong-willed and goal-oriented

Choleric’s are extremely confident. They are strong and powerful in aura; always making a grand entrance when they walk into a room – sometimes without even trying. Those that fall under ‘Choleric’ are go-getters who measure their value based on how they have impacted the world; more so in the business sense. They are attracted to wealth and will give their all to acquire it. They like others to know that they are successful and important, although they won’t necessarily boast about it; but are flattered when it’s noticed. They are known to be the least sympathetic of the four traits, however, they will kill for those they love. They are intense, strong-willed, powerful in nature and very self-confident.

Destinations fit for a Choleric: any place where they can see or be seen. They would prefer to go somewhere popular- somewhere that’s the ‘it’ place to go at the time. The most popular destinations currently are Bali, Vietnam and Thailand. For the Choleric’s that have more than a few pennies to spare would enjoy Europe, specifically Zurich.

Personality type: Melancholic

Temperament: analytical, detail oriented, deep thinker and feeler

Melancholics are introspective – they analyze themselves and their feelings and will often ponder for days, weeks or months about various circumstances, whether external or personal. They tend to search for a deeper meaning in everything they see and do, and will often interpret situations in a very different way from most people. Melancholics are known to be the most creative of the four traits, and lean towards areas that allow them to express themselves in any way they please – specifically art, literature and music. They have a deep love for people and are always looking for ways to make the world a better place – they feel it is their duty.

Destinations fit for a Melancholic: any place where they feel they can be free and can express themselves wholeheartedly. They thrive on interacting with other interesting people who they can learn from and feel inspired by. They would suit a destination that has an art-y flair’ that’s also vibrant and energetic – to get their minds off of analysing themselves and their inner world, and instead focus on their creative strengths. Design hubs like New York, London, Copenhagen and Berlin would be right up their alley.

Personality type: Phlegmatic

Temperament: relaxed, peaceful, quiet

Phlegmatic’s are introverts. They’re reserved, they keep to themselves and often tend to exclude themselves, often without knowing that they’re doing so. They can be mistaken for being stand-offish and unapproachable, but this couldn’t be further from reality. They’re instead very shy, and loathe being the centre of attention. Most phlegmatic’s feel awkward in social settings especially with people they don’t know, however, they’re surprisingly very chatty and ‘open’ with those that they know and feel a connection to. Phelgmatic’s may not be the overly social type, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care for others. They like to analyse people and read between the lines of what others portray. They hear what is not said, and they see what is not shown – they are extremely intuitive and instinctual.

Destinations fit for Phelgmatic’s: a place that is not too different from their home-town, because they’re known to not like change. Phlegmatic’s prefer the familiar and won’t often venture too far out of their comfort zones.

7 Tips For Road Tripping In Ireland

March 14, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

If you have your sights firmly set on visiting the emerald isle in the near future, simply continue to discover a variety of tips which will make road tripping in Ireland a breeze!

7 Tips for road tripping in Ireland:

  1. Consider hiring an all-terrain, four-wheel drive vehicle

If you plan on road tripping around Ireland and visiting remote Irish villages and towns, which are located in the countryside, you may want to consider hiring a four-wheel drive vehicle. Which will be able to handle country roads without any problems. Keep in mind, it is a good idea to have insurance while traveling just in case anything was to happen. Chill Insurance is an honest company that can help you find the right coverage at the right price. If you were looking to get insurance for your travels it is highly recommended to research your options and find the right coverage.

  1. Make sure to keep to the left-hand side of the road at all times

In Ireland, you must drive on the left-hand side of the road, which may take a little adjustment period to get the hang of, if you’re used to driving on the right-hand side of the road.

  1. Fill up on gas well before your car runs out of gas

While you may be used to driving past a gas station every five minutes, when you’re at home, in Ireland gas stations aren’t as readily available, so if your vehicle has less than half a tank of gas and you pass by a gas station, it’s well worth turning your car around and filling up your car’s tank. As you just don’t know when you’ll come across the next gas station on your road trip through Ireland.

  1. Don’t expect gas stations to accept credit cards

In Ireland, it’s far less common for gas stations to accept credit cards. So make sure that you have alternate forms of payment such as a debit card or cash ready, in order to pay for your gas.

  1. Enjoy dinners at local pubs instead of at pricey restaurants

If you’re interested in meeting friendly locals, it’s well worth choosing to enjoy dinners at local pubs, which boast hearty fare and Irish beers, instead of paying a small fortune to eat a fancy restaurant. So if you’re looking for an authentic Irish experience, you can’t go wrong visiting an Irish pub and experiencing a little bit of warm Irish hospitality!

  1. Make sure to have your camera or smartphone ready for photo opportunities

While you won’t want to pull out your camera or your smart phone’s camera when you’re driving, it’s still well worth having a camera or smartphone camera nearby as you just never know when you may want to pull over in order to take a stunning photo of Ireland’s stunning countryside. As an example, Ireland boasts numerous castles which make stunning photographs to show to your family members and friends back home.

  1. Consider staying at bed and breakfasts over hotels

When it comes to accommodation, it’s well worth choosing to stay at a friendly bed and breakfast, in order to experience a more authentic Irish vacation. As not only will you get to enjoy hot breakfast every morning and to be able to talk to your local hosts about nearby sites and attractions but you’ll also get to stay in a gorgeous Irish home, instead of in a sterile hotel or in an RV – unless you were looking for a trip that involved always being on the road.

If you plan on driving throughout Ireland on the road trip of a lifetime, make sure to follow the 7 simple tips listed above, in order to make sure that you enjoy an adventure of a lifetime.

How To Keep In Touch With Home While Traveling

March 2, 2018 by admin Leave a Comment

You’re strong, independent, and living the dream; you’re traveling the world, and experiencing adventures in a way you’d never thought possible. However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t want to keep in contact with your family back at home. It doesn’t matter how far we travel, sometimes a little reassurance from a parent or close friend can go a long way – particularly if you’ve experienced something incredible, or have been feeling a little homesick.

Keeping in touch with your friends and relatives back home serves two purposes; not only will your loved ones want to hear about the adventures and experiences that you’re enjoying, but they’ll also need to know you’re safe – no matter where in the world you’ve headed. Providing your nearest and dearest with a detailed itinerary and endeavoring to keep in contact will ensure that someone knows where you are should an emergency occur. Besides, don’t you want your closest family and friends to share your epic adventure?

As well as ensuring that a close friend or family member has a copy of your itinerary and expected destinations, now’s the time to discuss the matter of communication with those you intend on staying in touch with. So, what are some of the best ways to keep in contact with those back home?

Update your social media

Social media has quickly become a preferred platform of communication for travelers from all walks of life; sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram enable travelers to post videos, images, and status updates to multiple followers at any one time, ensuring that nobody ever feels left out. In-app messenger services are great for text communication, video calls and audio messages, and for sending pictures, documents, videos, and links. Don’t forget to check your data plan before you leave home, ensuring that your use of apps and websites won’t cost you the earth while you’re away.

Don’t forget to check your emails

There are few pleasures as simple as finding a local Internet café and settling down with a coffee or smoothie in order to check your emails: Internet cafés usually offer a cheaper alternative to keeping your smart phone’s data switched on. While we’re often content with communicating via social media and apps, there can be little doubt that emails still hold a special place in our hearts – especially if you’d like to send a longer update. Checking your email inbox is also a great way to stay in contact with your favorite products and services from back home. Do you play the lottery? Don’t forget to check your email address for lotto alerts while you’re away. You never know; you may win enough to extend your travels even further.

Start a blog

If you’re going to be away for any particular length of time consider establishing a blog before you go. Updated with videos, stories, and images from your travels, a blog is an ideal way to keep in contact with friends and family members, as well as sharing key moments and exciting adventures. You’ll be thankful for your blog once you’ve returned home, with a bump. What’s more, a travel blog is a great way to earn a little money while you’re away – particularly if you’re happy to host sponsored posts and appraise products, services, and accommodation. As a seasoned traveler you’re no doubt aware of just how expensive your hobby can be!

Send a postcard, or write

We’re so used to occupying the digital age that many of us have forgotten the simplest of pleasures that are derived from writing a letter, or sending a seaside postcard; your friends and family members will no doubt take great joy in receiving post from you at regular intervals. Postcards, letters, souvenirs, and mementos will involve your nearest and dearest in every stage of your adventure. Such items can be placed into a scrapbook, or memory box for you to review upon your return. Just in case you begin to get technology withdrawal, there are plenty of postcard apps available for download before you set off!

Arrange a call, or video chat

Writing a blog or updating social media can feel a little lonely until you begin to receive comments, likes, and notifications. Similarly, sending a letter or postcard will allow you to inform your friends and family members of your adventures, but not keep in touch with their news. Calling and video chats via a service such as Skype, Google Voice, or Facetime allow travelers to enjoy face-to-face chats with their loved ones, while sharing all of the gossip and news that’s occurring back home. Hosted telephone systems are especially popular with businesses if you happen to be traveling for work, while apps such as Whatsapp and Magic Jack can make communication easier than ever. Don’t forget to check your data plan and roaming charges, though!

It’s never been quicker, easier, or cheaper to keep in touch with home while traveling, regardless of where in the world you’ve ventured. Gone are the days when travelers would have to make do with snatched conversations in phone booths until their loose change ran out; these days we’re able to see and speak to our loves ones while we’re away, as well as sending images, videos, and exciting tidbits that we might have discovered along the way. The digital age can make it feel as though the world is shrinking, and yet there is still so much for us to discover. Where will your next journey take you, and how will you keep in contact with home while you’re away?

Hi Friends!
I'm Fern and I have a love for travel, beauty, health and flowers! I went to school for nutrition, but wasn't really interested in being a nutritionist. So, I started to bartend and have since I graduated school a year ago.
I love talking to people, traveling and writing on my blog... and bartending allows me to do the things I love.

I can take off for a month to travel abroad and there will never be any shortage of bartending/serving jobs when I get home. I also love that I can work abroad bartending anywhere I want! So, I hope you enjoy my blog and if you have any questions, feel free to email me! :)
