Orthodontic Costs

April 8, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

A picture containing person

Description automatically generated

Orthodontic treatment by design has to be long-term care, moving teeth from their current positions into a more aligned and healthy, not to mention aesthetically pleasing. locations. This cannot be done quickly without significant discomfort and trauma. So these are many of the factors that affect the costs of these types of long-term care. This article explores some of them and how to get the most out of your treatment.

Common treatment methods

The equipment used in orthodontic care has always been changing, with modern trends towards more convenient treatment methods and ease of daily use, rather than strictly focusing on clinical effectiveness.

Metal braces

The standard metal braces are still the most common treatment method, not only effective in a wide range of cases but is popular due to its wide availability and use of interchangeable parts. It is one of the cheapest pieces of equipment but it requires manual adjustment throughout the treatment cycle, so patients have to attend their clinic regularly, usually every 6 weeks. These clinic visits end up making up the majority cost of the care using traditional metal braces.

Clear aligners

Clear aligners have captured a lot of attention recently. They fully embrace the new demands of patients to have their orthodontic cake and eat it as an effective way of altering position, but are also unnoticeable in everyday situations. They do not reduce your food choices and are easy to maintain. Not to mention clear aligners are produced in sequences with each of the adjustments throughout and care planning pre-baked into these aligners, it is possible to go through treatment with minimal visits to the clinic. Many surgeries will allow check-ups via online video conferencing and only request patients to attend if they have concerns that the treatment is going awry.

Clear aligner alternatives

A picture containing person, indoor, baby

Description automatically generated

Whether it is Invisalign in Ipswich or Clear Correct, there are excellent aligner manufacturers worldwide but there are niche alternatives.

Lingual braces share some of the similarities of your standard metal brace, apart from the fact that they are installed on the inside of the dental arch, facing towards the mouth. They are made of metal and deliver forces to the teeth via an arch wire allowing them to produce more force but they are still visually low impact. The brackets have had a low profile as not to disrupt speech making lingual braces intensive to manufacture, significantly increasing their costs.

Finishing with a retainer

There is a common complication in orthodontic care referred to as reversion, when teeth attempt to return back to their starting positions. Therefore, the majority of orthodontic work will finish with a retainer. Whether using more traditional orthodontic tools or clear aligners, it’s a good idea to pay attention to your package to see if retainers at the end of treatment are an additional cost or included.

It would be wise to assume that the retainers are necessary and budget them into your care costs, rather than have an unpleasant surprise and a larger bill than expected at the end of treatment.

Blogging for good dental marketing

April 8, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

There is a range of different marketing techniques that you will need to have in place in order for your dental practice to ensure successful dental marketing. Without dental marketing, your dental practice will eventually get lost in the crowd and you will be losing patients to the other dental practices in your area. Dental marketing has become digitalised over the last few decades, and you need a strong online presence to attract the attention of your patients and encourage them to join your practice rather than those of your competitors.

If you would like to create a strong dental marketing campaign for your dental practice, then you need to speak to a multi-award-winning digital dental marketing team. They will find out everything they need to know with regard to you, your practice and the treatments that you have to offer and put together a bespoke marketing campaign for you.

You will need a marketing campaign that keeps up with the current trends and offers more than what your competitors can. You need to build brand awareness, trust and credibility and have patients address their dental needs with you. Firstly, you must create an online presence by adding your details onto Google My Business. This will put you on the virtual map for dental practices in your area. You need to make sure that you have a fantastic dental website created by a specialist website design team who will also maintain the website for you on a regular basis.

Why are blogs needed?

You need a dedicated writing team that can create new blogs for your website on a regular basis to emphasise the importance of good dental health whilst marketing the treatments and procedures that you have to offer at your dental practice. By speaking to a digital dental marketing team, you will be able to receive individually tailored, bespoke dental blogs directly to your email on a monthly basis, which you can then upload to your website or social media pages. Blogs are a good way of attracting and retaining the attention of patients who are already interested in addressing their dental needs. It also helps showcase your knowledge and expertise, and if you continue to create new blogs on an ongoing basis, then it also helps nurture an interest amongst your patients who will look forward to finding out more about you, learn more about looking after their dental health and be encouraged to address their dental needs with you very soon.

To create successful blogs, you need to carry out keyword research; this involves finding out which dental terms are searched for most frequently by your community. This could be a specific treatment or procedure, dental issue, disease or field of dentistry. This can vary amongst different towns and villages, and by making yourself aware of what your readers are looking for and addressing these topics, you will have a successful dental marketing campaign that will convert readers in your area into patients through your door.

What Are Smart Appliances and Do You Need One?

April 7, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

Our technology is progressing at an amazing and sometimes frightening pace. A century ago, we barely had electricity in our homes, and the first flight was only achieved 120 years ago. Nowadays, both air travel and electricity are so ubiquitous that we don’t really think about them.

With the advent of the internet and the increasingly interconnected world, it appears that everything is getting connected to the internet. Even our home appliances that have a very specific purpose can be hooked up to the world wide web and become connected.

To learn more about these so-called smart appliances, we talked to the experts in all things home appliances – Lars Appliances. Here’s their take on the smart revolution.

What Are Smart Appliances

Pretty much any appliance that can be connected to the internet and send and receive commands from a remote controller can be considered a smart appliance. The so-called Internet of Things, or IoT is the platform that connects all of these devices.

Thanks to the advancements in chip manufacturing and the miniaturization of electronics, increasingly smaller appliances can be turned into smart devices. And with increased volume of manufacturing, even the prices aren’t as prohibitive as they used to be when the technology was brand new.

Smart Thermostats

One of the first widely spread devices that was smartified are certainly thermostats. They are relatively simple and have a limited number of functions they need to perform. And they are already fixed to the wall, so powering and connecting them to the internet was fairly easy.

Nowadays, companies such as Nest, Ecobee, and Honeywell offer a wide variety of products with increasingly complex numbers of features. But the essence is the same – you’re able to control the temperature in your home via your smartphone or any other device that is connected to it. These thermostats are great for conserving energy – not having to heat or cool your home while you’re all away, while also not having to wait in discomfort while the temperature normalizes sounds like a no-brainer.

Smart Washers and Dryers

Another device that has progressively been getting more complex and ‘smart’ is certainly your washing machine. Not only are modern washing machines able to identify colors of your clothes and materials, they can even self-diagnose and let you know if there is a problem.

However, the true appeal of smart washers and dryers is the security that nothing will go wrong if you leave your house while they are on. If anything does go wrong, you will get a notification – and the peace of mind is priceless.

Smart Cooking Ranges

You may not immediately think of a use-case for a smart cooking range. However, with such an appliance in your home, cooking becomes that much easier. Setting the oven or the cooktop to the ideal temperature for the recipe you found on your phone can be as easy as tapping a setting on your phone.

And if you leave something cooking in the oven, you can count on the smart oven to turn itself off when dinner is done. And you can set it to reheat your food remotely – it can be just ready by the time you get back home.

Smart Light Bulbs

Even though they technically don’t count as appliances, smart bulbs just go to show how small and seemingly inconspicuous a smart device can be. Smart bulbs can be turned on or off remotely, and some models can even change the temperature of light, or even colors.

The big question is whether you need to buy a smart appliance. And the answer depends entirely on you. These appliances exist and offer some extra features at a somewhat higher price. What you need to think about is whether these features make sense to you and if you can justify to yourself paying that extra bit for them.

What Are the Different Types of Medical Gloves That Are Used Today?

March 25, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the acronym PPE probably didn’t mean much to most of us. Now, we’ve lived through a time when masks and medical gloves have become part of everyone’s lives. Medical gloves are so important to the British healthcare service that they will spend £6 billion on them in the next two years!

Even though we’ve used PPE more than ever, do you know your latex from your nitrile gloves? Can you say when you should use powdered or when powder-free is best?

Read on for the answers to all your questions about the different types of medical gloves that exist today!

What Types of Medical Gloves Are Available Today?

Disposable medical gloves are vital to the healthcare industry. They protect both patients and healthcare providers. But if you don’t choose the right gloves, they can cause problems.

Latex Gloves

The first disposable latex gloves were manufactured in 1964. There are many advantages to latex gloves, including:

  • Comfortable to wear
  • Good level of sensitivity
  • Flexible

The main disadvantage is that many people have a latex allergy and cannot wear them. Now alternatives to latex gloves have been invented that provide the same advantages, but do not cause allergies.

Nitrile Gloves

Nitrile is a form of synthetic rubber. It doesn’t contain any latex and is well tolerated by people with a latex allergy. However, they’re not as flexible as latex.

Another advantage of nitrile is that they are more durable and resistant to chemicals. They’re also very puncture-resistant. This makes them ideal for medical practice.

Vinyl Gloves

Vinyl is also used to make examination-grade gloves. The gloves fit more loosely and are very inexpensive. They are usually used for short tasks as they are not as durable as nitrile or latex gloves.

They also provide a lower level of protection and are most suitable for use in low-infection settings.

Powder or Powder-Free?

In the past, powdered gloves were common because latex gloves could be difficult to put on. The powder made it easier to put them on and take them off. However, the powder can also be an irritant.

Now, the best medical gloves are easy to put on and take off without the need for powder. In 2017, the FDA banned the use of powdered exam-grade gloves in the United States.

What Are Medical Gloves Used For?

Within the medical industry, there are different grades of gloves. You will usually find them categorized as:

  • Examination gloves
  • Surgical gloves
  • Chemotherapy gloves

Many governments regulate these gloves. They outline which ones a medical practitioner should use in different settings.

Generally, surgical and chemotherapy gloves provide a higher level of protection. Many surgeons and nurses giving chemotherapy practice double gloving for additional protection.

Choose the Best Medical Gloves for Your Needs

Disposable gloves are vital pieces of medical equipment. All types of medical gloves need to meet high safety standards to protect both the patient and the medical practitioner. Latex is a great natural choice, but if you are allergic, nitrile gloves will provide the highest level of protection.

Wardrobe essentials you need this 2022

March 23, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

Whether you love to indulge in micro trends or prefer to stick to timeless classics with universal appeal, few women can live without a curated cache of key style staples.

From basic building blocks to must-have women’s accessories in Australia, we’ve wrapped up all of the essentials you need to own to be able to pull together a chic look at the drop of a hat.

Plain White T-Shirt

The Covid-19 pandemic has influenced fashion in a myriad of ways, including a huge popularity rise in casual and comfortable dressing. This shift has made it all the more important for modern wardrobes to contain a number of basic items that look just as good as they feel on the body, such as a slim fitting plain white t-shirt, that can be styled up or down depending on what it’s paired with.

Perfect to throw on over bike shorts and a sports bra for a coffee and a coastal stroll after school drop off, or with tailored pants and a blazer for a video conference while working from home, white t-shirts are 2022’s answer to the iconic button up that dominated workwear fashion in pre-Covid times.

Black Leggings

A must-have for anyone who lives an active lifestyle and is determined to maintain a high daily step count, black leggings have become a firm style staple in Australian women’s wardrobes. Designed to provide high performance and flexibility during physical activity, the comfort factor of leggings has seen this item become a universally-loved outfit building block that can be worn to the gym and beyond.

Such is their popularity of black leggings that countless brands now offer their own take on this style. Some of our favourite legging designs come from labels including P.E Nation, Nude Lucy and The Upside, who seamlessly blend fashion with functionality.

When shopping for leggings don’t forget to do the squat test in the changing room to ensure the material doesn’t show more than you bargained for!

Cross Body Bag

There’s no surpassing a cross body bag when searching for a versatile accessory that can keep up with our busy lifestyles. Far more comfortable to wear than a traditional handbag or tote (your back and shoulders will thank you!), no contemporary clothes collection is complete without a cross body bag or two.

Versatile enough to be worn to work, on weekend adventures or out for dinner and drinks with friends, there’s a cross body bag to suit every taste and occasion. We love a simple black cross body bag with a statement logo for everyday wear and something a bit more eye-catching, like a patterned or embellished design, for evening expeditions.

Bomber Jacket

The humble bomber jacket has come a long way since it was first designed to be worn by pilots during WWI. From military uniform to coveted civilian outerwear, the bomber jacket is loved by women (and men) the world over due to its ability to be paired with almost any ensemble. Great for layering with chunky knits during the depths of winter, or over a t-shirt and leggings on a windy morning walk around the Swan River, this wardrobe perennial offers longevity and versatility that many other jacket styles lack.

To get the best value for money and maximise cost per wear, we recommend seeking out a plain bomber in a solid colour that can be paired with trendier garments with a shorter sartorial lifespan.

Boyfriend Jeans

Millennials the world over were shocked and appalled to learn that skinny jeans had fallen out of favour in early 2020 after being eclipsed in popularity by looser fitting boyfriend jeans. But now that we’ve had time to process and come to terms with this shift in silhouette, we’ve grown to love the androgynous denim fit favoured by Gen Z because let’s face it, boyfriend jeans are far more comfortable than the skinny jeans we all coveted in the 2010s.

What’s not to love about a relaxed fit that looks effortlessly cool?

Stylish Sneakers

Long gone are the days when women felt compelled to slip on a pair of high heels for a night out, much to the delight of aching arches everywhere! While we still enjoy a heel on special occasions, we love that the style status of sneakers has elevated beyond fitness apparel to become an acceptable shoe selection for just about any outfit.

From chunky statement sneakers with splashes of colour to an effortlessly elegant white sneaker, or a sleek all black design, this relaxed lace up style is now an appropriate selection in most contexts.

While many of us love shopping for women’s accessories online, when it comes to footwear it’s wise to try before you buy, as it can be very hard to anticipate how comfortable a particular sneaker style will be without trying it on IRL.

Create the perfect smile for a wedding day with a smile makeover

March 21, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

A picture containing person, person, smiling, lady Description automatically generated

There are times or occasions in life for which people may plan ways to look their best. Choosing the perfect clothes and visiting the hairdresser are just some things people may consider doing in order to portray the correct image they wish the world to see. For an occasion such as a wedding a bride may spend months planning the perfect look for her very special day, she may book a hairdresser and make-up artist for the day of her wedding, and she will have bought the wedding dress that makes her look radiant well in advance of the occasion.

The bride may also become conscious of the need to have a gorgeous smile for her wedding photographs, where she can be seen looking happy and having a laugh that lights up a room on the day of her marriage. This may lead her to decide that she needs to have the aesthetics of her teeth improved and she may well contact her dental practice to seek professional help with this task.

When a bride is looking into the services offered with smile makeovers in Glasgow she is seeking some form of cosmetic treatment that can improve the area of her mouth, this invariably impacts the whole image she hopes to portray on her very special day.

Whitening teeth ready for the wedding pictures

One of the more common cosmetic treatments used to improve the look of teeth is tooth whitening, which can be used to hide blemishes and refresh teeth that may be showing the results of stain-inducing food or smoking. Within the treatment area of smile makeovers, tooth whitening treatments are seen as a solution that can deliver results quickly and often in a way that can be thought of as non-invasive.

These treatments can be applied either within the environment of the dental practice or in the patient’s home, depending upon which treatment option is being implemented. It is important to point out that tooth whitening is a treatment that bleaches teeth over time making them look vibrant and bright.

A person smiling for the camera Description automatically generated with low confidence

If a patient decides to receive the home treatment they will receive a tray that fits around the teeth, and some whitening gel that contains the bleaching agent. For the best results the patient should have the tray in place for a few hours a day, this could be while they sleep. The patient should start to see the effects of treatment in a short time if they follow the treatment instructions fully.

Other services available

Remember, there are other dental options available that can help to improve the look of someone’s smile, such as tooth alignment treatment, dental veneers, or lip fillers, for more details about these treatments it is important that a dental professional is consulted as this leads to a person being fully informed about any treatment choice.

However, for brides who are looking for something simple they can do to improve the look of their teeth before their big day, the option outlined in this piece may be worth consideration. Getting the best wedding photographs possible takes a little effort, but it will be worth it in the end.

Why is it important to have straight teeth?

March 21, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

Having straight teeth helps us to remain healthy. Straight teeth are not only cosmetically beneficial, but function better as well. The ability to chew our food properly relies on our teeth meeting correctly. Having misaligned teeth prevents this from happening, resulting in not being able to chew properly and forcing our stomachs to try and break down larger pieces of food. Misaligned teeth can also cause pockets of bacteria to develop which can instigate a number of unwanted infections.

A new generation of braces and aligners

Wearing a large metal brace with wires, blocks and bands used to be the accepted way that misaligned teeth were treated. These devices were effective but were not comfortable to wear. Those same braces have been made into a far more comfortable and effective piece of modern day equipment. Technology and science have also combined to go further and to produce a number of additional braces. Some of them still use wires, blocks and bands, but they are made from different materials which blend better with the natural colour of our teeth. A lingual brace goes even further and instead of fitting onto the front of the teeth this clever device fits onto the inside of the teeth. These all require regular dental surgery visits for assessment and adjustments. Now there is a new type of brace called an aligner which works using different principles and is computer assisted, Invisalign in Glasgow has embraced this new technology.

Invisalign aligners

Invisalign aligners resemble a gum shield which fits over the teeth and they are made from a clear dental material, making them almost impossible to see. This is far more appealing to both young and old alike who may suffer from a dental misalignment. The scanners and computer software enable numerous images to be taken, so that there is no need for a putty mould of the teeth. These images are far more accurate and can be digitally transmitted to a laboratory quicker and more efficiently than a putty mould. This results in a far more rapid service and also allows the patient to view a virtual image of how their teeth will look once treatment has been completed.

How does it work?

Images of the mouth, teeth and gums are taken and a treatment plan is created. The images are then transmitted digitally to the laboratory where a virtual image of the patient’s teeth is created showing how they will look after treatment. The patient and dentist are also able to discuss the details of the treatment and the anticipated duration. A series of aligners, sometimes referred to as trays, are created, on average twenty-five are required, but the exact number depends on the condition being treated. These are fitted over the teeth and must be worn for at least twenty-two hours per day. It is possible to remove them to eat, drink and to brush and floss the teeth.

The revelation!

At the end of the treatment, one final retainer must be worn for a given time to give the teeth help to settle into their new positions. Once this period is over, it’s time to reveal your new smile to the world as you beam broadly and confidently.

Progressive dentists improving the dental experience

March 21, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

Progress can be defined as improving the path to a better destination. The dental industry has seen amazing progress over the past decades as technology helps to make the experience less stressful. A progressive dentist Stevenage will be aware that it is important never to forget the human element, which is to build a relationship with every patient. Explaining the benefits of a proposed treatment and answering questions will engender confidence. This will help to build a solid dentist/patient relationship which will result in a better patient experience.

Always improving

As dental equipment and techniques improve it is necessary to attend regular seminars and training to ensure that patients receive the best treatment available at any one time. Techniques in how to handle patients’ anxiety is also an area that is becoming better understood. The latest equipment provides many improvements to the dental experience, especially in the area of reducing pain and discomfort. The latest adaptation of this equipment is an apparatus described as a wand which is used for administering anaesthesia, painlessly. It is computer controlled and ensures that the exact amount of anaesthetic is distributed to the precise location required.

Cosmetic dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry often has a two-fold purpose. The first is always to restore practical usage and secondly to enhance from a cosmetic point of view. An example is teeth straightening which is necessary to ensure that the teeth meet correctly, allowing for proper mastication of food. The cosmetic enhancement is secondary to the primary need, but equally as important. The need to replace a lost tooth, especially at the front of the mouth is also cosmetically motivating, but equally enhances the ability to chew properly. It is therefore wrong to consider cosmetic dentistry as purely an aesthetic procedure.

Different demands

The twenty-first century has brought our dental features to the fore as technology brings us more and more enhanced personal devices. When the smartphone arrived with its camera it signalled a change in how we perceive ourselves. This changed the perception of the dentist as a tooth puller and tooth cavity filler to someone who could improve our smiles and looks. This has not been a bad thing, as we are now more conscious of our teeth and we want to take better care of them because they are on show a lot more than in the past. White fillings, porcelain veneers and teeth whitening have suddenly become necessary for us to present ourselves in public.

A positive benefit

This desire to present with a perfect smile has been a positive result of technology not only for adults, but the young as well. More and more are coming forward to have their teeth cleaned and to have them straightened. Braces and aligners have also developed at a rapid pace giving the dentist more targeted apparatus than ever before. Adults and youngsters alike realise that maintaining their teeth and gums will allow them to retain their smile. The aesthetic aspect has therefore resulted in making us all more aware of the value of our teeth and gums. The importance of six monthly dental visits has been highlighted and the result is that fewer of the new generation are losing their teeth through tooth decay.

10 essentials to pack on your next road trip

March 15, 2022 by admin Leave a Comment

Road tripping in Western Australia is potentially one of the most exciting things you could get up to this season. The lure of the open road, the fresh air filling your Subaru Outback’s cabin as you punch your end destination into Google maps – coffee in hand as you watch the city disappear in your rearview.

This is what life’s all about.

But leaving ill-prepared for your trip can not only turn your holiday into a disorganised mess – but it can also leave you in some tricky situations. Here are 10 essentials to remember for your next road trip.

1. (Real) Maps

Yep, we’re talking about physical pieces of paper with actual directions on them. After you’ve finished rolling your eyes and explaining that you only use Google Maps, hear us out. Depending on how far you’re going, having a backup map is always a good idea because our phones aren’t always on us – and they can’t be relied on for everything. This doesn’t mean you’ll end up using it – but as a precaution, this can prove to be very helpful in the unlikely event that your phone just doesn’t work.

2.Camera

Whether it’s your iPhone, Android, or your trusted Canon AE-1, you’re going to want to snap some good pics of your trip. Even if you’re only heading off for the weekend, being able to look back on your time on the road is always a nice thing – especially once you’re back in the swing of things at home. Make those memories count!

3. Power inverter

This one’s essential. Charging your phone, laptop, or setting up your portable fridge will require a power inverter to give you access to your favourite pieces of tech on the road. Power inverters are easy to come by at your auto shop – or you can drop into your local dealership and see which one is best suited to your vehicle.

4. Entertainment!

“Are we there yet?!”

No road trip is complete without the tunes, films, and podcasts that will get you through those (let’s admit it) boring parts of the trip. Four hours in, even grown adults will start complaining – and passing the time with your favourite bits of entertainment is the perfect cure. So make sure you download those playlists and get those series offline before you lose signal.

5. Spare water and snacks

Snacks and water are always essential items to pack before you hit the road. While buying snacks on the road is fun, you know the variety is limited as soon as you say goodbye to the CBD. Make sure to pack plenty of extra ‘emergency’ supplies as well. Keep these in a place out of reach from the kids (and yourself), because these are your backups in case of an emergency.

6. Medical kit

No car should be on the road without a medical kit stored in an easily accessible location (the glovebox). But a road trip calls for a thorough inspection of your medical kit to make sure it’s up to date with all the essentials. If you notice something missing – make sure to remedy the situation before heading off. You’ll thank yourself later.

7. Jumper cables

Don’t find yourself without jumper leads. It’s just not cool.

Waking up to a dead battery can happen – even to the best of us. And while it’s tempting to rely on others to carry these vital bits of equipment – it’s better to be prepared rather than be forced to call up roadside assistance. With jumper leads on hand, you can get back on the road faster – as almost any willing car can help you get your vehicle up and running in no time.

8. Tyre deflator and pump

If you want to get off the beaten track and visit some of WA’s most prized locations on the coast, you’re probably going to need to deflate your tyres to get enough traction to pass over what is normally very difficult terrain.

Beach driving and some off-road tracks will require you to deflate your tyres. To do that, you’ll need the right tools. Don’t forget to pack other essentials like a shovel, ramp, and winch if you plan to do more serious off-roading.

9. Battery charger pack

Once your phone’s dead – that’s pretty much it for us modern folk. No phone means no music, no directions, no news, no communication. It’s pretty much the end of the world (we’re joking of course) but this can put a serious dampener on your trip.

Come prepared with some loaded charger packs to keep that battery life of your essential electronics sustained – even when your car is off or out of reach.

10. Car fluids

It’s never wise to leave the city behind without ensuring you have the right fluids on hand. Engine oil, coolant, a spare can of fuel, and of course emergency water are essentials for any long road trip. Make sure you keep an eye on your coolant and oil throughout the trip and monitor any drastic changes in engine temperature.

Being ahead of the game will save you time and money.
